| Master
tiles were meticulously carved and sculpted, using line
drawings as a
guide, then a mold of each tile was made after being fired in an electric kiln. Copies of the tiles are created by pressing clay (either terra cotta or porcelain) into the mold. Each tile is fired twice, after being treated with an coloured oxide wash. Many of the subjects for these tiles were taken from etchings on the backs of bronze mirrors, and some from wood cuts or shards of pottery, and other sources. Most of the examples here are taken from Ancient Italy or the Etruscan civilization but Celtic, American, and Middle Age Europe are also represented. I continue to work on new subjects. In the future I plan to create tiles of a number of Tarot Cards. I am also keen to learn what other subjects might interest people. Custom orders are invited. |
