_________________________________ About my Art
Much
of my pottery is hand-built with coils of clay, slabs, or hand-formed
and sculpted. This yields a body of work
rich in variety of shape and texture.
Each piece is one of a kind, with an
identifiably unique character. Much
of the pottery is pit-fired, and sparsely
glazed, with animals and naturalistic elements
being frequent motifs.
The style is characterized by hues of greens, tans, beiges, and smoky greys that swirl around the vessel. Pieces include boxes, bowls, votives, jewellery, sculpture, and historical tile art. Historical reproductions, and custom sculpted portraits in clay are specialties. Another side of my creative work is whimical and wildly colorful, characterized by a playful spontenaity: Hand-formed and sculpted goddess mugs, asymetrical "anything dishes", garden spirits, hand painted porcelain jewellery, and colorful little mushroom bells are some of the surprises that leap out from the artist's kiln.
In the next couple years I will be taking my work
to a
new level. I have a number of more "serious" projects
in the works that will involve the concepts of a) social
responsibility, b) looking into oneself and others, and c) conscious
and unconsious relationships with our environment. I will be also
experimenting with new forms. How soon these projects will come to fruition depends largely upon my gaining financial support, either through sales of my work, through arts grants, or, perhaps, through arts patronage. Contact: aradia@mts.net
